College Life

Since the teaching style of the Higher Diploma Programme is similar to that in university, it is a good chance to build a good foundation for study. Besides, the programme also enhances my Chinese and English oral presentation skills.

The two years of college life hasenabled me todevelopan excellent foundation for my further studies and broaden my horizons. By gaining fundamental knowledge in business and participating in mentoring program, I am well equipped and able to move on. Moreover, I was grateful to have guidance from supportive lecturers and counsellors. Theygave me advice on my further studies and helped me when I was in difficulties. I will never forget the moments in the college with my lecturers and classmates. Finally, I would like to share a sentence with you, “If you want something you never had, try to do something you have never done.

Studying in College, I have participated an accounting competition and an internship scheme. That let me dare to walk out of my comfort zone and explore a different aspect of myself. It helps me to think out of the box by solving every problem in further. Accordingly, studying in College not only learnthe theoreticalknowledge, but also I get another chance to enter the university. If you get hesitate in further studying, our lecturers and consulters can provide the professional advises for you. As long as you are hardworking at HPSHCC, you will be able to achieve your goals.

Through studying the Higher Diploma Program at this college, I have done a lot of business-oriented activities which helped me get into university and study my favorite subject. The teachers at this college are patient and willing to answer our questions about future career and academic aspects. Not only does this college focus on students' academic result, but it also concentrates on our extra-curricular activities. This college provides various types of internships and competitions periodically to assist students' all round development.

During my time at HPSHCC, I joined accounting competitions and activities, which allowed me to apply the business theoretical knowledge learnt in class. I am grateful to the College for a summer internship opportunity to be an accounting clerk at Po Leung Kuk. It enriched my CV, strengthened my confidence, as well as improved my interpersonal, organisational and numerical processing skills. It has set me up well for the future.

Besides the knowledge in accounting and financial planning, I have learnt the critical thinking skills through group projects and trained up my leadership skills as well. The College lecturers are professionals and experts of the industry. They know the business field well and have provided us with valuable advice.

My school life in the College has proven that I can still have better achievements. In the Higher Diploma in Business (Accounting and Financial Planning) programme, I made every effort for each assignment, report and examination. Although the life there was tough, my efforts finally directed me to a bright path. When I looked back, I would say that I had made a correct decision absolutely. Apart from competent lecturers, counsellors in the College can give us a clear direction for our future.

In 2010, I got a failed mark in my public examination. After that, I chose to continue my study path at the College. I can definitely say that my choice was absolutely correct and I am glad to be one of the students on the College. The programme includes different aspects of knowledge other than Accounting and Finance such as interpersonal skills, computer skills, business ethics, etc. It equipped me to be an all-rounded student and made me well-prepared to be a degree student. Most importantly, the Academic Excellence Scholarship enforced my self- confidence.

My past few years at the College have provided me with an in-depth knowledge on my specialised area. On top of that, what surprised me the most is the learning style in the College. The learning atmosphere is similar to university over here. Students are encouraged to raise questions and look for answers by themselves through books and discussions with classmates. Lecturers are also more than willing to answer all kinds of questions about the related areas. Sometimes, they will also share some of their experiences so that the lectures can be more enjoyable.

At the College, I have not only acquired knowledge and practical skills on accounting and financial planning, but also developed various kinds of abilities. Through individual and group projects, I have learned to think critically, communicate effectively, as well as coordinating well with other people. Out of class, there are lots of activities for students to participate in, such as study tour, internship, camping and voluntary service. These are good opportunities for us to broaden our exposure and get a chance to relax, while shaping us to be all-rounded students.
